My 5 Greatest Tips for Building Confidence

Low self-confidence can have an adverse effect on your health and overall happiness. It may seem overwhelming to build your confidence, and you may feel like it’s almost impossible! Boosting your self-esteem can take hard work and maintenance, but developing a few intentional habits can help you slowly change your thoughts and feelings about yourself for the better. Here are my 5 greatest tips for building self confidence!
Positive Self Talk
How you talk to yourself has a huge impact on how you feel about yourself. There is nothing more damaging to your self-esteem than negative self talk. The saying, “you are your own biggest critic” is true, and can be incredibly harmful to your mental health. Learning to change your negative self talk to positive, uplifting self talk can have a huge impact on your confidence and self worth over time.
Surround Yourself with Uplifting People
Spend time with those who lift you up. When you surround yourself with family and friends that love you and see the best in you, it can be easier for you to see it, too! People that practise optimism, self-love, and patience will rub off on you, causing you to develop helpful habits. Adversely, hanging with a crowd that triggers negative thoughts can be detrimental to your confidence, so always be aware of how the people who surround you affect your mental wellbeing.
Take Care of Yourself
This one is a no brainer: take care of your mental, physical, and emotional needs. Getting enough sleep, eating a balanced, healthy diet, and staying hydrated are pivotal. Equally as important is caring for your mental health – managing stress can be challenging, but developing a relaxation routine can be hugely beneficial. Finally, don’t be afraid to have fun and pamper yourself! Treat yourself by dressing up, trying a new hairstyle, or wearing your favourite lipstick.
Don’t Compare Yourself
Comparison is the thief of joy. When you compare your strengths to others, they can seem like weaknesses, causing you to lose sight of what makes you you. Comparing yourself to others isn’t fair: everyone is different, and at a different stage in life whether you recognize it or not. Everyone presents their best self to the world, hiding their struggles and insecurities. You never know the full circumstances of another person, so don’t assume everything is perfect. Remember, “The only person you should try to be better than, is who you were yesterday”.
Do What Makes You Happy
What brings you joy? What are your favourite hobbies and your biggest strengths? Do what makes you happy and recognise the things you do best. Over time, you’ll learn to appreciate yourself and develop pride for your unique talents!
Try to incorporate these habits into your everyday life to change your thoughts and feelings about yourself. Developing self-confidence is one of the greatest things you can do for your physical, mental, and emotional health – so start building yourself up today!
