Each and every day, you make conscious decisions that either build your confidence or tear it down. How you treat yourself has a great impact on how you feel about yourself. What was the last thing you said to yourself? Maybe it sounded something like this: “You’re so stupid. I can’t believe you made that mistake!” or “Nobody loves you. You don’t deserve to be happy.” You would never speak to your best friend like that, so why do that to yourself?

Often, the biggest bully in life is yourself. It’s easy to be the bully- you never have to challenge yourself, work hard, or take risks. Believing in yourself, pushing yourself, and dreaming big takes work. Why bother if you’re going to fail anyway? If you don’t try, then you can never fail- but is that really living? Are you really living if you’re always putting yourself down and holding yourself back?

The Importance of Self Care

Research has shown that self-care can help make you more productive, reduce stress, and increase your overall happiness. Making intentional efforts every day to care for yourself is necessary for your mental, physical, and emotional health. Treating yourself with kindness and patience allows you to slow down and focus on the things that make you special and worthy- ultimately building your self confidence. However, self care isn’t always easy. You may think you don’t have the time, money, or energy necessary for the #selfcare that instagram influencers rave about. Self care isn’t about fancy bath bombs, bottomless prosecco, and shopping sprees- it’s about taking care of your needs and truly listening to yourself. Learning to stop, relax, and reflect on your inner self can help you gain acceptance, peace, and self-love.

How Can I Develop a Self Care Routine?

Self Care looks different for everyone, and it can take on many different forms. What are the things you do to escape the stress of life and relax? Maybe it’s a bubble bath, a run, or listening to your favourite calming music. I suggest you set an intentional time for relaxation and reflection and develop a habit. If you enjoy taking daily walks to manage your stress, schedule it in your diary, and stick to it. Treat it as a necessary appointment- just as important as your business meetings or dinner parties.

In addition to the relaxing activities you enjoy, caring for yourself involves reflecting on the thoughts and feelings you have about yourself to understand and change them. The next time you have a negative thought about yourself, try to examine it to understand the emotion behind it, and transform it to something positive. For example, when you make a mistake, you may think “You’re so stupid. I can’t believe you did that again”. Try replacing the thought with “ Mistakes happen. This is a learning moment for me that will help me grow better and stronger. ” It may be difficult at first, but it will pay off. Learning to speak kindly to yourself is a huge part of self care, and it will be your most powerful tool to building self confidence.

Self Care and “Tweakments”

Many of my patients struggle with self confidence, and may even seek aesthetic treatments to give them the boost they need. While there is nothing wrong with seeking tweakments, it’s important to focus on your inner self, as well. Real confidence and self-worth start from within- you can’t expect a tweakment to completely change how you feel about yourself. Rather, it will only be a bandage covering up the bigger problem. As a medical professional first, I will never perform procedures that are unnecessary, and I always ensure that my clients are receiving treatments for healthy reasons.Tweakments are amazing tools when combined with self-care, but without confidence, they won’t suffice.

My goal, first and foremost, is to help my clients love and care for themselves. When you change the way treat yourself, then you can truly change the way you feel about yourself. Treat yourself with love, patience, and respect, and you can transform your life. Feel free to contact me for a chat.

Take care,
